He was the second of the five sons of Francis Anthony Nixon and Hannah Milhous Nixon. At the age of to the highest degree ten, he began working part time as a covered stadium picker. During his teens, he worked as a handyman in a packinghouse, janitor at a swimming pool, and barker at an amusement park.
